Your Online Presence- The Key to Success

MSK_WebsiteAs recently as 20 years ago, if you owned a business, there was only one way to attract clients and that was local outreach. You opened up a store, put signs up, created flyers, took out ads in the local paper, or maybe even branched out to local television advertising. All of this was done in the hopes of attracting local clients and consumers. Your marketing efforts were aimed at targeting and reaching out to potential customers/clients to offer your goods and services. You may or may not be surprised to know that with the evolution of today’s internet age, local outreach marketing is not only outdated but more importantly too limiting and constricting for any business to succeed. In fact, the pendulum has completely swung in the opposite direction. Not only are customers/clients actively searching for your business or service, your marketing reach is not geographically limited. In this digital age of smartphones, tablets, netbooks, and laptops, people have direct and instant access to information 24/7. Technology has become affordable and accessible to millions and this is obviously a big advantage to any business.

So, how does this affect you? Well, this means that you no longer have to actively search for clients like you used to do. They are out there (in the hundreds or even thousands) and they are looking for information to meet their needs. Technology has provided your potential client base with a means to find you, while also expanding your client base from a local to a national (or even global) scale, depending on your business. Potential clients are out there actively searching for you every single day. It really is that simple. As a website developer, I have clients all over the world that have discovered my website and services. Technology has bridged the geographic gaps making it not only possible, but easy to work with clients anywhere.

“So, what’s my role now?” you may be asking. “If my clients and customers are already looking for me, then my job is done, right?”

Well, not exactly. Your role has changed and evolved, but you still need to be just as active in marketing your business. Now that you know potential clients are out there actively looking for your business, you need to provide a platform for them that is clear and easily found. The hard part of attracting potential clients/customers is done. The trick is to help them easily find your business (and your services), making certain that you are available to answer their call for information.

The most important question to ask yourself today is, “Can people who need my business/services/goods find me easily and quickly?”

The answer to this question is directly related to your online presence. In four simple steps, an online presence consists of:

  • Developing and designing a professional website to promote your brand, goods, and services.
  • Creating a social network structure (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google+, etc.) and integrating it into your site.
  • Establishing an e-mail marketing campaign to connect with your client base.
  • Optimizing your website for search engine visibility (also known as search engine optimization — SEO).

A professional online presence is the most valuable investment you can make for your business/brand. The returns are lasting and invaluable if done correctly. I always love hearing your comments and questions. Feel free to leave a comment below or send me a private message via our Contact Form .
